MILAN, Italy -- Mauro Icardi scored twice to help Inter Milan beat 10-man Sampdoria 4-0 in Serie A on Sunday and boost its hopes of qualifying for the Europa League. Icardi is living with the ex-wife of former teammate Maxi Lopez, and the Sampdoria forward refused to shake Icardis hand before kickoff. "Icardi shouldnt have done that gesture with his ear, but for the rest he showed a really cool head to deal with the environment that had been created around him," Inter coach Walter Mazzarri said. "We shouldnt forget that he is young and he has this exuberance which lets him be clinical and cool. He can become a great player, as he has that in his DNA." Walter Samuel and Rodrigo Palacio also scored for Inter while Lopez had a penalty saved. Sampdoria played most of the match with 10 men after Eder was shown a second yellow card for his part in a brawl. Inter remained fifth but will be boosted by Parmas 1-1 draw at Bologna and Lazios 4-2 defeat at Napoli. AC Milan is firmly back in the race for a Europa League place as picked up a fourth successive victory with a 1-0 home win against bottom club Catania. Hellas Veronas slim European hopes diminished as it lost 5-3 at home to Fiorentina. Also, Chievo Verona beat Livorno 4-2 in a relegation battle, while Torino snatched a dramatic 2-1 win against Genoa. Icardi was booed every time he touched the ball by Sampdoria fans but that seemed to spur him on and he fired Inter in front in the 13th minute. Deafening jeers rang out but Icardi celebrated by cupping a hand to his ear and urging the fans on. Sampdoria could have immediately levelled when it was awarded a penalty after Andrea Ranocchia went into the back of Daniele Gastaldello, but Samir Handanovic denied Lopez. Sampdoria was down to 10 men after a brawl boke out in the 20th minute and Eder, who had been booked for diving, was shown a second yellow and dismissed. Inter doubled its lead on the hour mark when Samuel headed in Hernanes corner and Icardi sealed the result minutes later with his second of the match, driving across from a tight angle. "Icardi lost today," said Sampdoria assistant Nenad Sakic, who was standing in for suspended coach Sinisa Mihajlovic. "That gesture towards his ex-fans and against his ex-club, which made him grow, shows what kind of person he is." Parma is two points behind Inter after rescuing a draw in the lunchtime kickoff. Bologna had only won one of its past nine games but looked to have secured a vital three points thanks to Niccolo Cherubins 44th-minute strike. However, Parma levelled 11 minutes from time when Raffaele Palladino volleyed home Jonathan Biabianys cross. Bologna moved three points clear of the relegation zone, while Parma remained in the Europa League spots -- three points above Milan, Lazio and Torino. Riccardo Montolivo scored the winning goal for Milan, a 30-meter snapshot into the bottom left corner, in the 23rd minute. Catania midfielder Fabian Rinaudo was sent off 12 minutes from time following two yellow cards. It was Maurizio Pellegrinos first match in charge of Catania, after replacing the sacked Rolando Maran. Catania is eight points off safety. Gonazalo Higuain scored a hat trick for Napoli, ending his five-game goal drought. Senad Lulic had given Lazio a surprise lead when he forced his way past Raul Albiol and drilled across into the bottom left corner. Dries Mertens levelled with a swerving shot into the top right of goal shortly before halftime. Lazio was reduced to 10 men at the start of the second period as Lorik Cana was dismissed for a second booking after fouling Mertens. Higuain converted the resulting penalty. The former Real Madrid forward scored twice more, either side of Ogenyi Onazis consolation for Lazio. Torino appeared to be heading for defeat after substitute Alberto Gilardinos late goal. But Ciro Immobile and Alessio Cerci scored stunning strikes into the top right corner within 30 seconds of each other in stoppage time. Fiorentina had beaten Verona 4-3 earlier in the season and the fans were treated to another high-scoring game. Alberto Aquilani scored twice for Fiorentina, and there were also goals for Juan Cuadrado and Borja Valero and a penalty for Alessandro Matri. Jacopo Sala and Juan Iturbe scored for Verona, while former Fiorentina forward Luca Toni converted a penalty. Marcos Rojo Jersey . When New Zealand finally held on for an 8-7 win, France No. 8 Imanol Harinordoquy collapsed to the ground, having given every drop of energy he could muster, and lay prone as All Blacks danced around him in celebration. Few critics had given France any chance, but coach Marc Lievremonts team rallied from 8-0 down and came within one kick of taking the lead with 15 minutes remaining, only for flyhalf Francois Trinh-Ducs 49-meter effort to drift wide. David de Gea Jersey . Harrison Barnes had 15 points and Reggie Bullock scored 11 for the Tar Heels (17-3, 4-1 ACC), who took the court for the first time without starter Dexter Strickland. The junior guard tore his right ACL last Thursday at Virginia Tech and will miss the rest of the season. http://www.jerseymanchesterunitedsoccer....nited-jersey/.C. United on Wednesday night. Forward Bright Dike scored the games only goal in the 85th minute on a foggy night in Bradenton, Fla. Andreas Pereira Jersey . Burris threw for 247 yards in one half of a game -- on pace for a nearly 500-yard outing -- as the Redblacks downed the woeful Montreal Alouettes 26-10 in CFL pre-season play Friday night at Percival Molson Stadium. Jesse Lingard Jersey . The Cottagers last victory came in a 2-1 home win over West Ham when Rene Meulensteen was still in charge. Since then, a miserable run of seven defeats and two draws has seen the club part with the Dutch coach and replace him with German Felix Magath. WINNIPEG -- Devin Setoguchi was hiding his face Friday night but not in shame, as his two goals lifted the Winnipeg Jets to a much-needed 4-3 win over the slumping Vancouver Canucks. He was wearing a player-of-the-game pilots helmet, complete with darkened visor, that the team has come up with as a new locker-room tradition. "This time of year youve got to find a way," Setoguchi said of his timely goals, which ended his seven-game goal-scoring drought. "Theyre ahead of us in the standings and the other night Nashville was and we let one slip away there. And if were going to try and crawl back up in this thing were going to have to make big wins late in the season here." Zach Bogosian and Michael Frolik also scored for the Jets (26-25-5). Captain Andrew Ladd picked up two assists. Alexander Edler, Ryan Kesler and Jason Garrison scored for the Canucks (27-20-9). Daniel Sedin picked up an assist but his goal drought didnt end and has now stretched to 15 games. The win means the Jets have won seven of the nine games theyve played since Paul Maurice took over as head coach. "Im really happy for him, its been a tough stretch of games," Maurice said of Setoguchis performance. Not much changed in the standings however. With Nashvilles 3-2 overtime win over New Jersey Friday, the Jets remain a point behind in the Central Division cellar. And, despite the loss, the Canucks sit in eighth place and cling to the final wild card playoff spot in the Western Conference with 63 points. Phoenix is next with 60, but things are tightening up with Nashville at 58, and Winnipeg and Dallas both with 57 points. It was also the last game Vancouver has to play without head coach John Tortorella behind the bench, as his suspension for his actions before and after a brawl with the Calgary Flames ends this weekend. Eddie Lack, in goal instead of Robert Luongo, made a lot of great saves to keep Vancouver in the game as the Jets outshot the Canucks 34-26. "Their goalie made some huge saves for them to keep them in it," said Ladd. Lack said it was tough to start the game by giving up the first goal. Though they battled back and twice tied it up, they could pull ahead. "Its not the first time that happened for us and it kind of feels like were talking about the same thing," he said.dddddddddddd Assistant coach Mike Sullivan took his time coming out to talk to reporters as Tortorellas stand-in and said late penalties were momentum killers. "It was frustrating because we fought our way back into the game," said Sullivan. "I thought we had all the momentum in the third period (but) we shot ourselves in the foot." The Jets outshot the Canucks 15-7 in the first period and Vancouver had managed just one shot when Bogosian scored from the point at 5:02, slamming one past backup Eddie Lacks glove. The Canucks rested Roberto Luongo Friday night. The Jets kept up the pressure and Vancouver called a time out just over a minute later as Setoguchi backhanded one in from the side of the net to make it 2-0. The Canucks got their first on a power play when Edler slipped a rebound behind Ondrej Pavelec from the side of the net at 10:27. Winnipeg continued to control the play, however, and Dustin Byfuglien thought he had another with about a minute and a half left in the period. But Lack caught a piece of it as the big winger swept past. The Jets started well in the second but turned over the puck in front of their own net and Kesler was right there to backhand his 19th of the season past an unprepared Pavelec at 4:48. The tie didnt last long. Frolik put the Jets back in the lead when he snapped in Ladds behind-the-net pass at 6:41 and that was it for the second. Winnipeg kept its edge on shots at 13-10. But the Canucks tied it up again in the third when Jason Garrison blasted one from the point and Pavelec went down as the puck went high. Setoguchis second of the game at 17:04 put the Jets back in the lead and the Canucks took a high-sticking penalty at the same time, their second of the period, to keep them from making another comeback. Notes: It was Vancouvers first visit to the new Jets at the MTS Centre. The last time they played the Jets at home was in 1996, the final season for the original Jets before they relocated to Phoenix and became the Coyotes. With Vancouvers visit, every team in the NHL has now played in Winnipeg.
