DETROIT -- Another rough return from the disabled list for pitcher Jordan Zimmermann could potentially put his spot in the Tigers rotation in peril.Zimmermann, who has served two stints of a month or more on the disabled list for a neck injury since July, got rocked in the Tigers 11-3 loss to Baltimore on Saturday night, surrendering six runs on four hits with three walks in just one inning (plus four batters faced in the second inning). After the defeat, which left the Tigers trailing the Orioles by one game in the race for the second wild card, manager Brad Ausmus did not commit to Zimmermann making his next start or remaining in the rotation.Thats something to be discussed, Ausmus said. We havent decided that yet.The Tigers appear to have a few different choices. They can keep Zimmermann on regular rest and have him make his next start Thursday against the Twins, use rookie Michael Fulmer in that game, or seek a spot start from either Mike Pelfrey or Buck Farmer.Pelfrey, who was recently moved to the bullpen, is available for only 60 pitches, however, and Farmer will be unusable for at least the next few games because of his workload in long relief Saturday night. When Zimmermann was asked whether he expects to make what would be his regular start Thursday, he said: I hope so. I mean, I hope Im pitching in five days. They havent come and told me anything yet.?Zimmermanns outing on Saturday was frustratingly similar to his last appearance -- another truncated start on Aug. 4 in which he gave up six runs in 1.2 innings pitched before promptly returning to the disabled list. But the 30-year-old insisted he felt good physically and was not hampered by injury.I feel good. I feel like Im back to my old self. I just wasnt able to locate pitches, and its pretty embarrassing going one-plus innings and giving up six runs, Zimmermann said.Ausmus did not seem worried that Zimmermanns health was in question. Previously, Zimmermann admitted to rushing his last comeback attempt, which ultimately resulted in another long absence.Ive never been told that he wasnt 100 percent, Ausmus said. He pitched his rehab, and after his last rehab start he said he felt really good. Thats why we went forward. It was clear from the first inning, however, that this was not the same Zimmermann who began his Tigers tenure with a phenomenal first half and earned American League Pitcher of the Month honors after posting a 5-0 record and a 0.55 ERA for the month of April.Zimmermann began the game by serving up a first-pitch home run to Adam Jones and, three batters later, gave up a two-run shot to Chris Davis. The Orioles have been punishing opponents with their slugging abilities, and the Tigers were no exception Saturday night. When Zimmermann was removed from the game in the second inning, Detroit was already in a 5-1 hole.I was trying for the corner and Id miss 5 inches off or down the middle, Zimmermann said. In a lineup like this, its going to be a long night if youre doing that, and as you saw, thats what happened tonight.Complicating matters is that the Tigers are faced with uncertainty about their rotation while the team is in the midst of a heated playoff race. Ausmus was peppered with questions both before and after the game about whether he contemplated saving Zimmermanns return for the clubs upcoming series against the Minnesota Twins, who have floundered against Detroit this season, rather than an opponent against whom they are jockeying for position.Considering the Tigers face the American League Central-leading Cleveland Indians this weekend, those types of questions -- and the ensuing scrutiny over pitching matchups -- are expected to persist as Detroit tries to snag a postseason spot.We need to win games, Ausmus said of the teams precarious position. Well decide whats going to best help us win games.Zimmermann, who said he has never experienced a stretch like this in his entire career, was frustrated he could not do that on Saturday. Were in it, and you want to go out there and pitch a good game and keep racking up these wins, he said. I was terrible tonight. So this loss is on me. Vapormax Shoes Sale . LOUIS -- Coach Ken Hitchcock hopes the combination of a lopsided loss, a day off and a good practice on Monday will result in a better performance when the St. Louis Blues host the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.Theres building times and this is it, Hitchcock told NHL.com. Weve got a real opportunity right now.The Blues have lost three games in a row and five of their last seven, including a 3-1 defeat at Nashville and an embarrassing 8-4 loss at Columbus on Saturday night, a game in which they trailed 7-1 at one point.Three of those recent losses came in games in which the Blues allowed five or more goals.Theres spots in games where were doing everything we want to do, then all of the sudden, things turn the other way and its going negative, said defenseman Alex Pietrangelo. Its got to come from within this room. Nobodys going to help us. Everythings getting magnified. Were not being as assertive as we usually are. You identify a check, you know thats youre guy and youre going to play him hard. If someone makes a mistake, youre there to help your teammate out right away. Were getting spread out in our end, were not communicating the way we need to communicate, and thats resulting in glaring opportunities, whereas in the past, if those were there, it didnt seem like they were obvious opportunities. I think when we get more assertive and play teams harder, be tougher to play against, its going to work in a positive direction.Jake Allen, who was pulled in the second period against the Blue Jackets after allowing four goals, will get the start in net against Buuffalo.dddddddddddds a team, the Sabres can relate to what the Blues are going through. They are winless in their last four games, including both a shootout and an overtime loss. They have scored a combined four goals in those games.Just like the Blues, the Sabres have had a problem staying out of the penalty box. They have been called for five or more penalties in four of their last five games. The Blues have been called for the most minor penalties in the league (76) while Buffalo ranks 11th with 58 minor penalties.Weve got to stay out of the box, Sabres right winger Kyle Okposo told NHL.com. Thats something that needs to be addressed and needs to be executed. There are some penalties that you have to take and other ones that are just undisciplined penalties. Weve got to stay away from the undisciplined ones.Center Ryan OReilly, who has missed two of the last three games, could play against the Blues, according to coach Dan Bylsma. Buffalo still is expected to recall at least one forward and a defenseman from the minor leagues before Tuesday nights game. The Sabres have fallen to last in the NHL with an average of 1.93 goals per game.Maybe the biggest surprise is we havent got to the power play as much as we need to to get opportunities to score, Bylsma told the Buffalo News. We should be playing the way where teams have to take penalties against us. Given the lineup we have, we need to manufacture goals in a hard and difficult way. ' ' '
